Ways to Spot Signs of Termites

Termites are one of the most destructive types of pests in the entire world. This infamous designation goes to these insects because they attack lots of organic material, from wooden buildings to crops. They are more famous for eating the wooden pillars of homes and businesses, but they can also feast on trees or crops that people use. Catching a termite infestation early can mean that you prevent your property from sustaining terrible damage. Here are some of the signs of termites you can watch out for.

Signs of Termites

  • Flying Scouts- Termites like to colonize big areas. Each spring, a termite nest will send out scouts that will fly around and look for new places to create off-shoot colonies. If you see flying ants around your property in the spring, it’s a good indication that you might have an infestation on your hands. We often have luck taking a look in the spider webs and drainage areas around your property, as it’s easy to miss these flying specimens as signs of termites without these collection points.
  • Tube-Like Structures- Termites burrow through wood and other organic material in unmistakable patterns. They usually create hollow, straw-like holes. If you see small holes in the dirt around wooden parts of your home, take a cross section of dirt to look at whether these are signs of termites and their tunnels.

If you see some of these characteristic indicators, make sure to get an idea of the extent by consulting a professional in termite control like our exterminators at Sterling Pest Control.
